It's hard to believe we are at the end of summer, 2016! At the Salina Area United Way, we know it is the end of the summer when the Free Summer Lunch Program wraps up. We know it is the end of summer when our RAWR (Raising Active, Wild Readers) book program comes to an end. We know it is the end of summer when the Saline County Back to School Fair is complete and we have helped distribute over 1400 backpacks full of school supplies to families in Saline County.
The end of summer also marks a new beginning for many of the children in our community. With school starting in a few short weeks, it is important that we all remember those "back-to-school" things that sometimes get lost in the hustle and bustle!
First: Don't forget to schedule to schedule immunizations and school physicals for your children. This is also a good time to schedule your own physical. Why not get on the same schedule as the kids? Preventive care is as important for you as it is for your children!
Second: Contact 2-1-1 of Kansas for resources for everything from after-school programs, counseling, disability services and more. Simply dial 211 toll free from any phone and you will be connected with a live person in Wichita who can help you find any resource you may need.
Third: Download or print your FREE Familywize prescription discount card. There's even a free App so you don't have to keep track of another card! This free program, in partnership with United Way, provides for negotiated discounts on your prescription medication. The card is free to everyone, it is easy to use (there's no registration or eligibility requirements!), and can save you an average of 43% on your prescriptions! The card has unlimited use at over 60,000 pharmacies nationwide. Take the card with you to the pharmacy the next time you go and ask the pharmacy staff if you can save on your medications!
Here's to the beginning of another great school year, and a year of good health to you and yours!
