Meet Our Interns!

Rebecca Adkins attends Kansas State University, majoring in Family Studies and Human Services. At the Salina Area United Way, she has been focused on grant writing, reviewing, and application, and has also attended many meetings with the community and board members representing the SAUW.

“I chose to intern at the SAUW because I volunteered for the United Way and really liked what they stood for, and liked the individuals that work for this organization.”

Adkins says interning at the SAUW has definitely given her real world experience; “I have learned that you must be able to be flexible and adaptable to change. I have seen first-hand the flexibility practiced by the employees and how is has made potentially negative situations positive.”

“I have really enjoyed interning at the SAUW this semester.” Adkins says she feels she has gained so much from interning here and has thrived with the support of the staff.

Tara Davis has a double major in Business Administration and Public Relations at Kansas Wesleyan University. At the SAUW she has helped with campaign evaluation surveys, has made great connections in the community, and has had the main project of planning, organizing, and executing the Freddy’s fundraising nights.

“Since I’ve gotten on of the internship positions, I’ve loved being a part of the SAUW! The small, family atmosphere of the office really allows me to feel comfortable at work while getting things done.”

Davis notes that she has met certain people and been able to attend meetings she wouldn’t have thought possible; “Having contact with some of Salina’s most important business people has truly been an honor.” Davis also says, “Tasks and deadlines are giving me so much experience that I will later be happy to use in the real world.”

“I am thankful for the opportunity I’ve been given here at the SAUW,” Davis says. She also added that co-workers have made this semester an amazing experience and she looks forward to what the rest of her time with the SAUW will bring.
