Hi. My name is Lorna. I want to tell you about myself and my family. I have a daughter, granddaughter, and a son who is disabled. They are my life! I moved here from California to give them all a better life away from the gangs and violence we’d experienced. After moving here, I experienced kidney failure and other numerous health problems. I was at the lowest point in my life. I came to Catholic Charities seeking help after all my medical problems and financial crisis. I felt like someone finally cared and that I wasn’t just a number. They helped me with my Westar disconnect, and getting food for my family. I took a Financial Literacy Class that helped me refocus my finances, gain a better perspective of resources, and empowerd me to take back my life. After that I signed up for the “Adopt a Family” program and was blessed to be able to bring back to my family the sense of hope, joy, and peace, as well as a brighter more stable future, that I had lost long ago.
Catholic Charities SMART Goal: By December 31, 2015, 75% of clients seeking emergency assistance will complete a Financial Literacy Class.
