Announcing our New Executive Director!

The Salina Area United Way is proud to announce the hiring of Amanda Michaelis as Executive Director. As a long-time Salina resident, Amanda brings with her many established relationships with agencies, business leaders, and community members.  She has business experience in many areas including human resources, accounting and management.  Her involvement on other boards has shown her to be a proven leader and fundraiser.

“As someone who grew up in Salina and is now raising my family here, I know the importance that the United Way has in our community.” Michaelis said. She and her husband Todd have two children, Carson, 12, and Molly, 11, with whom they are actively engaged in community events and activities. “I have always been involved in giving back to the community that has given so much to me, and this position will allow me to do that in an even greater way.  I look forward to jumping right in and making a difference.”

Amanda earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Kansas. She also earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and Healthcare Administration from the University of Missouri. She has continued her involvement in education by teaching business classes at Kansas Wesleyan University, K-State Salina and Brown Mackie College. For the past 12 years, Amanda has held several key positions at Propane Central including Human Resources Manager, Director of Administration and most recently, Regional Bookkeeper.  She has been fully engaged in growing that business from a local, family owned and operated organization to a national, public entity.

As for her new position, Michaelis is very excited to become involved and engaged. "Sometimes opportunities come along that you feel called to do, and I feel called to do this," she said. "I feel like there's a contribution I could make to the community in a bigger way than I have before and have a greater impact on community organizations."

Michaelis has high expectations for herself, and her community. "One thing I talked about in my interview was value," she said. "We need to make sure we're providing value to the agencies, and show the community what these agencies are doing for Salina." As Executive Director of the Salina Area United Way, Amanda will lead the agency in its efforts to increase their annual fundraising results so that in collaboration with our certified, funded agency partners we can continue to improve lives and strengthen our community.

We can’t wait to see the value Amanda will bring to the Salina Area United Way!
