Why We're Coming Together
Due to the recent government shutdown, SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits have been paused — leaving many Salina families without the support they rely on to afford food, medicine, and other essentials.
In response, Salina Area United Way and Tony’s Pizza Events Center are launching a powerful initiative:
SNAP Back Against Hunger: Food & Resources Fair
This event is more than a food drive — it’s a community movement to support our neighbors in need.
The Need in Saline County
Key Stats from the ALICE Report:
- Population: 53,801
- Households: 22,299
- Median Household Income: $63,316 (below state average of $70,333)
- ALICE Households: 23% (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed)
- Households in Poverty: 15%
That means 38% of households in Saline County are struggling to meet basic needs like food, housing, childcare, and healthcare.
