VITA Office Closing Due to COVID-19 Concerns

Salina Area United Way announces closing of the VITA Office

Salina, KS - Effective Monday March 16th, the Salina Area United Way has decided with the COVID-19 Coronavirus concerns to close the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program office (VITA) for the remainder of this tax season.

The safety of our volunteers and the individuals who use this program are our number one concern. With the recommendation from the CDC that gatherings of 50 people or more in the US be canceled or postponed, we feel it is the best decision.

If you have already had your taxes completed through the VITA office and have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact our office.  We will do our best to get all questions answered.  For more information about Salina Area United Way, contact Salina Area United Way at 785-827-1312.

VITA offers free tax preparation services to low- and moderate-income individuals and families
to help them avoid costly income tax preparation fees and ensure eligible tax credits.

Was your household income less than $54,000 in 2019? If you said yes, you’re eligible to have your taxes done for FREE by trained volunteers!

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, in partnership with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), is a service designed for low-to-moderate income individuals to promote and support free tax preparation service. Free tax preparation supports VITA’s goal to build financial stability for everyone in our community by:

  • Saving moderate- and lower-income families the cost of paying for tax preparation
  • Making sure that working families get the tax credits they deserve, such as the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)
  • Preventing families from taking out a loan against their own money, which is what they must do to get an “instant refund” through a commercial preparer
